| Sunset Magazine (Excerpted from article printed in various western USA editions, spring 2003) Removing deeply rooted weeds takes a slender, tough tool like the Diggit2 (pictured in magazine). Invented by Seattle-area gardener Elena Shemeta and her son Paul after years of using an old tent stake to extract weeds, this foot-long tool has a sturdy, daggerlike 8-inch blade made of stainless steel that won't rust or bend in hard soils. The soft handle provides a comfortable grip, and its flashy yellow color makes it hard to lose. The blade's center groove also works for sowing seeds, digging bulb holes, and transplanting seedlings; inch and centimeter notches along its edges make it great for spacing plants. |
